Dynamix 2007 – Day #1

This one’s a juicy one. It’s the symposium being held at Ramjas Scool, RK Puram. Personally, I’m happy because I’ll be missing a French Monday Test. We had major trouble deciding the team composition (it’s not yet final for Day #2 :-P )

Thing was that their Creative Event stretched over a good part of both days, and we needed our ace WebD and DI guy, Dorth Vader AKA Arjun for it.  He was also scheduled to go for the quiz and crossword with Ankur. I was originally scheduled for Creative Event, but changed to Gaming (I’m not all that bad!) But then, when I turned up today at the iLab, we plan on sending a friend(Anshul) of another member of the gaming team(Akshay). There were 3 people required for gaming, that’s why I got in, in the first place.

Getting to the school was going to be a problem, and I knew it. The school is located bang in the middle of a residential colony, with small roads leading up to the entrance. Couple that with the fact that we have a huge bus, and we have a problem on out hands. Couple that with the fact that the driver did not know the way, and we have an even bigger problem. We reached 2 dead ends before finding the school.

I had come here before, and it’s a kinda small and cheery school. We assembled yet again in the muti-purpose room, which truly lived up to it ‘s name. There was gymnastics equipment at the back! And I’m forced to comment that the speakers in the room are bad, which when coupled with a long hall with solid walls and no padding,  poses a serious hazard to my ears.

I basically spent my entire day at the Creative Event. It required you to think up your own Google Hoax. For those noobs who don’t know what Google Hoaxes are, I’m assuming that you know, in the very least, what a hoax is. If you don’t, go boil your head. Google Hoaxes refer to the various services that Google launches on the 1st of April. I hope you get what I mean. If you don’t…like I said, GO BOIL YOUR HEAD!

The team consisted of 4 people – GQ, Dorth, Ishaan, and me. Ishaan and I were assigned with the job thinking up a hoaz, coming up with a doodle design, and a general website layout. After a lot of thinking we came up with 3 different topics, that I’m not yet willing to disclose. Waiting for after Dynamix. Might be something controversial. :-P

Arjun came after the crossword and quiz to replace Ishaan. We were all over the place, first designing a bit of the doodle, then back to the website, and then pondering over the banner.

Basically pretty disorganised.

When we got down to coding CSS and HTML, we ran into a roadblock. Arjun was having trouble. He was having trouble  with getting the background of an element to be white. We found that the problem lay in another bit of CSS.

CSS – Contradictory Sucky Stuff/Confusing SuperShit/Cascading StyleSheets/Whateva… (Arjun, don’t take offense!)

Then, Uma told everyone that witty humour would be accepted and rewarded, whereas cheap humour would NOT! So, our original topic went down the drain. We decided to continue with our template, at least. He also had some trouble with JavaScript, and we had to abandon that bit, as it was getting late, and the bus was about to leave.

Ankur won the Group Discussion for us. He said he found it very enjoyable, coz’ he liked the topics. Good for him, coz’ he was complaining at Exun at the kind of topics they were giving. Our Gaming team, consisting of Akshay, Anshul and Lereze (Feroze), also came at least second. I can’t give the exact position, because we had to leave before the finals. The finals was, I believe, a round of CS. If you don’t know what CS is, do what I told people who didn’t what a hoax was to do.
