TechEdge 2008

I already mentioned TechEdge, in one of my last posts. Read the Columban Open Quiz post’s 2nd and 3rd paragraphs for the preparation we did for this event.

As usual, there was a little wait in the lounge. There were a lot of people going, and we were still bundled into Minibus 5742. There were people for a skit, apart from the TechEdge dudes. Anyway, TechEdge was part of a bigger event, called Utsava, organised by Birla Vidya Niketan. So, to tell the truth, it was a bit sidelined…being held in the Old Library (yeesh).

Special mention: Their video.

They used AfterEffects. In fact, they were so cheap, they even copied several effects I used. Like the starfield, atomic wave and funny coloured bubbles!

Viddeomaker not happy. Viddeomaker wanna break heads.

Our event – WebD was first up. As expected, some amateurs came up with ghastly designs with tiled images, frames, Comic Sans and a color combo of red, yellow, green and blue. Yuk! Ours wasn’t that much better, but better nevertheless. Anyway, we were slightly unnerved, when we were called to the PC, in front of judges, and then being asked about where our entry was. I had handed over the CD to Navina Ma’am and expected her to have sent it off on the 24th. Apparently, they had not received it. Slightly shocking.

So, I, being the calm-headed guy, advised Karthick that we should go and search for our teacher, who had a mobile phone from which we could phone our school, and subsequently, Navina ma’am and ask about the CD. (Damn…I shoulda got my phone) Anyway, it was OK, because just before we reached the skating rink-turned-auditorium, someone found us and told us that our CD had been found in the Admin Office. Anyway, we proceeded back to the Old Library, devoid of any bookshelves, and presented our travesty of a website. Predictably, we didn’t get a position. There were people who had put in ample amounts of JavaScript, but hey, we didn’t know that we could give the website on the day of the event itself! That way, we would’ve got more time to work on the website.

Anyway, we just wasted a day all for nothing. DPS Vasant Kunj got no positions at TechEdge 2008. A bit more of planning and some hardcore people going would’ve got us the overall, which went to DPS Mathura Road.
