It’s probably a problem faced by a large number of teens all over the world. Parents consider the teens a very volatile period of their child’s life, and probably with good reason as well…all sorts of half-baked opinions and ideas chase each other around in a teen’s brain…his hormones have entered into overdrive and many other events which you can read about in a good parenting book and/or biology book/Twilight.
In my case, I have way too much facial hair compared to my friends…and inevitably, going by the pack animal psychology of needling those who are different, I get a lot of stick for that. But that’s beside the point. I’ve started shaving with a razor at a relatively young age…which means that I can start styling my facial has as well…you know…the occasional goatee…a soul patch. And this is where of and my parents differ in opinion…although my facial hair is my own…my parents have a considerable say on whether it stays put or not…which I don’t like one bit.
Mom constantly draws analogies between me and muslim terrorists, which I find mildly annoying … Not because I’m annoyed, but because she is bandying around a well-worn stereotype. Dad gets pretty pissed as well…although I’m pretty sure that he too sported some kind of beard in school…
In general, I guess that parents just want their kids to look ‘respectable’…the definition of which is highly unstable…of course…each generation has it’s own definition of what’s ok and what’s not…plus respectable is not the same as natural…so I guess there two groups are unlikely to ever reconcile their differences at least on this particular debate…btw…this is the beginning of a series of posts I’ll send through my mobile on my way to/from VMC

I thought the ‘Can I shave?’ to ‘Must I shave?’ transition generally takes a lot of time, but you seem to have gone through that pretty quickly too!

The problem with me was that I really had a pretty fast-growing beard after 8-9th, and I wanted to keep it in check. So I guess I skipped directly to the ‘How should I shave?’ stage…
