Back to the grind

As many of you are undoubtedly aware, I like to try to keep in shape. I say try, because usually, I never can keep an exercise regime going long enough to produce proper results (i.e. more than a few months). By work, I don’t mean going to the gym to pump iron. More like go to the park at 5 AM (yes, that may be an ungodly hour for you, but not for me), run a few miles with my iPod, and then some calisthenics and exercises.

There’s something strange about working out that drives me. Usually, I can’t get myself to get up before 6:00 or 6:30, no matter how hard I try, unless I have an exam, or some competition. But needing to go to the park drives me like nothing else. Right now, it’s never fully bright when I go. There’s an unearthly early morning glow.

And that’s the best kind there is.

Something about the wind rushing past my ears, something about knowing that I’m straining my body, gives me a certain satisfaction. I guess I like to feel good about myself, that’s the only plausible explanation.

No, hang on, there actually is another one as well. When I was younger, I was quite…how should I put it…round. So much so that I did eventually became the butt of quite a few fatass jokes. Being a bit self-conscious, I guess I got it into my head that I had to get into shape. Plus, there’s that feeling that if I don’t get into shape now, I never will be, because it’s a proven fact, that it’s much easier to maintain a fit body, than create one from scratch later…

But actually, the best side effect of getting up early and getting some exercise, is that the rest of your day goes perfect. Trust me, if you didn’t have an excessively late night the previous night, you’ll feel wide awake through most of the next day, till it’s time to go to bed again…

If there’s anyone else out there, on the verge of deciding upon a similar course of action, leave a comment. If you’re a pro, leave a few tips as well…I don’t claim to be an expert on the subject…

P.S. Just realised in the park that after my workout, I tend to me ‘steaming’…

  1. Er, do you have that Nike+iPod stuff? Or have you seen it in action?

  2. “run a miles with my iPod” Typo…again…..

  3. Oh.and this line “something about knowing that I’m straining my body, gives me a certain satisfaction” bought back some old memories of mine. That’s the only reason I used to pump iron in the gym.

  4. Thanks for the pointing out the typo

  5. Seriously, Pulkit, stop reading my blog and go study!
